Description: Located about two hours outside of Mexico City, Container City is a thriving little community made out of shipping containers created by a small community of businesses. The containers have been stacked to create courtyards, alleys and streets and are home to many restaurants, juice bars, bookstores, art galleries and even some residential apartments! This is a really fun and funky place and the shipping containers only add to the atmosphere! When needed, they are decked out with kitchens, dining rooms etc and even ping-pong tables to keep the visitors busy! They are all painted bright colours and take up 4,500 square meters in total!
Number of Shipping Containers Used: Compromised of about 50 shipping containers.
Credits to: Mexico Container City
Benefits: Shipping containers are one of very few structures which can all look exactly the same, yet have enough character of their own for people to not think they are seeing double. The fact that there are so many containers right next to each other, housing a number of different things, means it looks uniformed, but fun and inviting too!
